All about Active and Passive Electronic Components. Active and Passive Electronic Components are two classes of electronic components. Both these classes of electronic components are different from each other.

Table of Contents

Components incapable of controlling current by means of another electrical signal are called passive devices. Resistors , capacitors , inductors , transformers , and even diodes are all considered passive devices.

An active device is any type of circuit component with the ability to electrically control electric charge flow electricity controlling electricity. In order for a circuit to be properly called electronic , it must contain at least one active device. The operation of each of these active devices will be explored in later chapters of this volume. All active devices control the flow of electric charges through them.

Some active devices allow a voltage to control this current while other active devices allow another current to do the job. Devices utilizing a static voltage as the controlling signal are, not surprisingly, called voltage-controlled devices. Devices working on the principle of one current controlling another current are known as current-controlled devices.

For the record, vacuum tubes are voltage-controlled devices while transistors are made as either voltage-controlled or current controlled types. The first type of transistor successfully demonstrated was a current-controlled device. Don't have an AAC account? Create one now. Forgot your password? Click here. Latest Projects Education. Active Versus Passive Devices

Latest Articles in "Industry News". One key factor that differentiates types of electronic components from each other is whether they are passive or active. However, many people are unsure of exactly what that difference entails. This article is here to help. Electronic components are categorized as active or passive depending on the functions they are able to perform.

Electronic elements that make up a circuit are connected together by conductors to form a complete circuit. An active component is an electronic component which supplies energy to a circuit. A voltage source is an example of an active component in a circuit. When current leaves from the positive terminal of the voltage source, energy is being supplied to the circuit. As per the definition of an active element, a battery can also be considered as an active element, as it continuously delivers energy to the circuit during discharging.

1 Passive Components: Components like resistance, capacitance inductance, and fall in this class. Active Components: They can be further classified as.

Whether the diode is active component or passive component. Active devices deliver power. Batteries deliver power. Diodes are passive devices.

Active and Passive Electronic Components

There are numerous basic electronic components that are used for building electronic circuits. These components include resistors, diodes, capacitors, integrated circuits, and so on. Some of these components consist of two or more terminals that are soldered to circuit boards.

Chapter 2 was concerned with the various types of electronic subunits that make up a system. These subunits are themselves made up of a number of electronic components connected together to form electrical current paths called a circuit. A diagram showing how the components are connected is called a wiring diagram if it shows the exact location of the components and the wires connecting them, and a schematic diagram if it shows how the components are connected but does not show the physical location of the components within a subunit. To enable a drawing of this type to be made, symbols are used for components; and, in the interests of general comprehension, these symbols are laid down by the British Standards Institution BS Electronic Circuit Symbols.

Electronic gadgets have become an integral part of our lives. They have made our lives more comfortable and convenient. From aviation to medical and healthcare industries, electronic gadgets have a wide range of applications in the modern world. In fact, the electronics revolution and the computer revolution go hand in hand. Most gadgets have tiny electronic circuits that can control machines and process information.
