But you forget so easily that I must live for me and for you; if we were wholly united you would feel the pain of it as little as I - My journey was a fearful one; I did not reach here until 4 o'clock yesterday morning. Lacking horses the post-coach chose another route, but what an awful one; at the stage before the last I was warned not to travel at night; I was made fearful of a forest, but that only made me the more eager - and I was wrong.
The coach must needs break down on the wretched road, a bottomless mud road. Without such postilions as I had with me I should have remained stuck in the road. Esterhazy, traveling the usual road here, had the same fate with eight horses that I had with four - Yet I got some pleasure out of it, as I always do when I successfully overcome difficulties - Now a quick change to things internal from things external.
We shall surely see each other soon; moreover, today I cannot share with you the thoughts I have had during these last few days touching my own life - If our hearts were always close together, I would have none of these. My heart is full of so many things to say to you - ah - there are moments when I feel that speech amounts to nothing at all - Cheer up - remain my true, my only treasure, my all as I am yours.

These were men who were either truly in love or had within them emotions that could only be expressed by the written word.
They were not throwing words on a page or murmuring a quick "I love you" They were laying bare their hearts. I was touched. Would that I receive a letter one day with even a percentage of this dedicat Truly, this will go on my list of favorite books. I grew jealous of the women that received them. Beautiful book Saw this book appear on Sex and the City and it made me want to read it right then and there. Jun 03, Alba rated it liked it. This is a collection of letters by famous people like Kafka, Beethoven, Napoleon etc from the first century to early nineteenth, so pretty much we will get a grasp of how these great men felt the love!
This was not as good as I expected. There were only a handful of letters that I actually found romantic and beautiful. However, in this book, you'll definitely find beauty, art which we have forgotten in our text communication world.
I can not even remember when was the last time I wrote a letter or got any from lover! This was not a good as I expected. So many others were actually rather depressing and not romantic at all in my opinion. One thing for sure, however, is that in this book you'll definitely find a beauty in styles of writing from worlds ago, which, for a literary person like me, is quite enjoyable. The vocabulary and style of communication is just not what it used to be, and in this book I found, at least, that I This was not a good as I expected.
The vocabulary and style of communication is just not what it used to be, and in this book I found, at least, that I could enjoy that these men took true time to write down their thoughts. What ever happened to such beautiful language? Apr 07, Mary Connolly rated it really liked it. Some of the letters in here are laughable and sexist but many of them did make me gush and filled my heart, such sweet words! Well apparently I'm a sucker for love letters written in old fashioned prose.
Finished reading : 3. How adorable knowing the very personal, the purest of feelings do those 'Great Men' have and how beautifully they put it into words!!! We certainly don't speak like that anymore. Very good reader on audio book enjoyed it thoroughly. I listened to these letters on audio book which was really nice, because the reader had a lovely British accent.
I especially enjoyed hearing those of Mozart, Beethoven and Mark Twain. This is a fairly short book with under 50 letters in it. The language used is so beautiful! What a classic read! Love letters of great men? How can I say no? Some of these letter moved me to tears, any made me giggle, but most made my heart warm and smile in my face.
How adorable knowing the very personal, the purest of feelings do those 'Great Men' have. Intensely romantic. I could read it over and over again. Just like an old man said: love makes the world spin around and around! This was one of those 'in between' reads I picked up while I was deciding on my next book to read.
I did enjoy it, and it was nice to be witness of the softer side of many of these men. I just wanted my Carrie Bradshaw moment to be honest. I got it. Found some lovely quotes to bookmark, so no time wasted. Lovely collection, if you're a hopeless romantic, you should pick it up. Apr 01, Narges rated it it was amazing Shelves: audio-book. I finished this book in one setting. Oct 31, Amila rated it really liked it. An interesting, light read overall, quite funny at times. Reading someone's personal letters made me feel uncomfortable, which I coped with by mocking the author's choice of words and questioning the honesty behind them that part was fun ngl.
The short relationship stories after each letter turned into sort of a Spanish soap opera at times and I was LiViNg for it. Like yeah Henry, you're all fluff now but give it a couple of years and you'll be beheading the poor woman. My favorite letters An interesting, light read overall, quite funny at times.
