A nation could be a great one as long as it has a great dream. The best example for this is America. Through its long history, it manages to realize a dream to be a superpower. Globalizing the culture has been the most effective engine to spread American cultural values and to shape the global civilizations.

Popular culture

The Internet has broken down communication barriers between cultures in a way that could only be dreamed of in earlier generations. Now, almost any news service across the globe can be accessed on the Internet and, with the various translation services available like Babelfish and Google Translate , be relatively understandable. In addition to the spread of American culture throughout the world, smaller countries are now able to cheaply export culture, news, entertainment, and even propaganda. The Internet has been a key factor in driving globalization in recent years. Many jobs can now be outsourced entirely via the Internet.

Then there are more thematic, but just as theoretical books, like Cultural Studies and the Study of Popular Cultures: Theories and Methods Edinburgh University Press, , another Storey opus whose chapters focus on TV, fiction, film, the press, music, consumption, and globalization. Those books are obviously destined to graduate students and researchers. The authors focus on fourteen topics in American popular culture, presented in chronological order. Following the usual format for the collection, each chapter starts with a general introduction, followed by primary sources covering several 'popular culture' specificities of the period, and then by essays about the same topics. A useful bibliography closes each chapter. The book is complemented by a website giving access to various resources, including audio and video recordings, sheet music collections, as well as links to museums and exhibits websites.

The Systemic Dimension of Globalization. Needless to say, the emerging global culture actually consists of a plurality of global cultures. In various cultural domains globalizing tendencies occur, which neither all run parallel nor all show the same tempo; there have been lively debates on the cultures of globalization in the plural. Classifying countries into different subsections of the globe is a tricky and inexact business, since there is a high level of interpenetration and cultural exchange between countries as this chapter will illustrate too. One should be wary of Western centrism or a more specific Euro- or America-centrism, as manifested in forms of Orientalism especially which have their Eastern counterparts of Occidentalism. What is meant by the two terms changes both in historical time and geographical space; there are many mixed forms, and behind each of both labels all kinds of subdivisions are hidden. It is not a new process, of course; local cultures have long been influenced — and even shaped — by outside forces, and, historically, have become detached from their local anchorings under capitalism.

W hy examine science fiction if we are interested in world politics? On the face of it, there seems to be little relation between the two. World politics, common sense tells us, is first and foremost about life-and-death issues: war and peace, ethnic cleansing and genocide, the global spread of AIDS, refugees, natural disasters, nuclear proliferation, terrorism and counter-terrorism, global trafficking in arms, drugs, and human beings, famines, free trade, rapacious corporations, globalization. Popular culture also called mass culture and pop culture is generally recognized by members of a society as a set of the practices , beliefs , and objects that are dominant or prevalent in a society at a given point in time. Popular culture also encompasses the activities and feelings produced as a result of interaction with these dominant objects. The primary driving force behind popular culture is mass appeal, and it is produced by what cultural analyst Theodor Adorno refers to as the " culture industry ". Therefore, popular culture has a way of influencing an individual's attitudes towards certain topics.
