This is a theoretical analysis of structural interdependence in monetary economics. Some recent attempts to integrate money and finance in the theory of income and expenditure are critically examined. The Sraffian dichotomic interpretation of classical political economy is refused. A version of the classical surplus approach devoid of separating connotations is sketched, where flows and stocks are consistently reconciled and net financial wealth vanishes in the aggregate. New Consensus and New Neoclassical Synthesis macroeconomic models are criticized from an orthodox Keynesian point of view.

It deals with topics in both monetary theory and monetary policy and is designed for second-year graduate students specializing in monetary economics, for.

Monetary Theory and Policy, 2nd Edition

An overview of recent theoretical and policy-related developments in monetary economics. Monetary Theory and Policy presents an advanced treatment of critical topics in monetary economics and the models economists use to investigate the interactions between real and monetary factors. It provides extensive coverage of general equilibrium models of money, models of the short-run real effects of monetary policy, and game-theoretic approaches to monetary policy. Among the topics covered are money-in-the-utility-function models, cash-in-advance models, money and public finance, the credit channel of money, models of time consistency, monetary policy operating procedures, and interest rates and monetary policy.

Keynes's theory of monetary policy is composed of three concepts—namely, the investment multiplier, the marginal efficiency of capital and the interest rate. By analyzing how these three concepts interact in the short period, Keynes explains why he is opposed to countercyclical monetary policies. And by analyzing how they interact in the long period, he explains why the economy tends to fluctuate around a long-period equilibrium position that is characterized by unemployment. Keynes concludes that the sole objective of the monetary authority should be to use its influence over the interest rate to dislodge the economy from its long-period equilibrium position that is characterized by unemployment and propel it toward a long-period equilibrium position that is characterized by full employment.

- El anillo. - El anillo.
